FDIS Diploma provides excellent education for housing association

Places for People is one of the largest property management, development and regeneration companies in the UK and is responsible for some 148,000 homes. The safety of the 6,700 people for whom it provides care and support and its more than 5,000 employees is vital both morally and legally under the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order or RRO.

So this leading housing association is keen to ensure that its staff are equipped with the most comprehensive knowledge available to ensure that they maintain best practice across all of its properties.

The Places for People safety team is based at the company’s Preston head office and one of its key members is building surveyor Mark Green whose responsibilities include leading on fire safety. He recently completed the FDIS Diploma with a score of 100% proving that he has achieved an excellent knowledge in all aspects of fire doors.

Mark says: “Key elements of my job include undertaking fire door inspections and also checking the working of the joinery contractors who install and maintain our doors. Working through the comprehensive modules of the FDIS Diploma means I know all the latest information and can apply it to ensure the safety of our residents and staff.”

Four further members of Places of People’s safety team are currently working through the FDIS online education programme and are aiming to pick up the gauntlet of a perfect score when they take the FDIS Diploma examination at their local test centre.
