FDIS Diplomas put team in good company
Companies House is an Executive Agency of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). Its main functions are to examine and store company information delivered under the Companies Act and related legislation and to incorporate and dissolve limited companies.
With representative offices throughout the UK, its main office is in Cardiff which is also where Mike Methuen, Building Services Manager, is based. His responsibilities include more than 200 fire doors which are inspected and maintained by a team of engineers who maintain the various facilities in order to ensure they are kept in good order and meet legislative requirements.
Mike and several of site based engineers are working through the FDIS Diploma in Fire Doors.
Mike says: “I first heard about FDIS from a colleague in the NHS. Having looked at in more detail, I felt that it would enable us to carry out fire door inspections and assessments far more effectively secure in the knowledge that we had access to all the latest information. Going through the online education programme and taking the exam provides an excellent insight into the requirements for inspecting our existing fire doors as well as specifying and installing new ones.”
Mike and his team are so passionate about the need to improve fire door knowledge that they are hosting a seminar at their offices in Cardiff in December. They will be inviting local facility managers, site supervisors, maintenance engineers and contractor managers to come along to improve their understanding of their liabilities and the implications and potential hazards of getting it wrong.
